Convento di Santa Maria degli Angeli

The Convent and Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, also known as San Francesco al Campo, are situated in the village of Grotti, on the border between Nocera Superiore and Nocera Inferiore. The Franciscan complex is one of the most significant religious sites in the area in terms of history, art and the continuity of worship.

The current structure dates mainly from the 16th–17th centuries, but the site’s origins are much older and linked to the conversion of a tower from the ancient city into a place of worship. Over time, the convent has expanded, gaining a decorated cloister, convent spaces, a library and an archive of great value.

Today, the complex preserves important artistic treasures from the Baroque period and a strong Franciscan spiritual identity, remaining a religious and cultural landmark for the local community.

Opening hours

There are currently no opening hours for the Convent Complex of Santa Maria degli Angeli, but it is possible to visit it with volunteers from the Nuceria Archaeological Group on request by emailing gruppoarcheologiconuceria@gmail.com.
