Parco Alfonso e Matteo Fresa con Area Archeologica

The “Alfonso e Matteo Fresa” Urban Park in Nocera Superiore houses a vast archaeological site that reveals an extraordinary stratification of history, from Roman times to the Middle Ages. Today, the complex functions as an open-air museum, where nature and archaeology coexist along a protected trail.

The area, known in the 20th century as a cattle market of supra-regional importance, has been the subject of a systematic excavation campaign launched in 2006, which has brought to light buildings from the ancient Roman town of Nuceria, subsequently reused in late antiquity and the Middle Ages. The site preserves monumental remains, thermal baths, mosaic floors, wall decorations and numerous artefacts, including sarcophagi, millstones and stone materials.

Today, the park is one of the most significant sites for understanding the urban and social evolution of ancient Nuceria and its long-term reuse over time.

Opening hours

The Urban Park and the Archaeological Area of the Baths of Nuceria are open on the following days and times: Saturday and Sunday, 8.30 am–12.30 pm

The site is managed by the Nuceria Archaeological Group, thanks to an agreement signed with the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Salerno and Avellino and the Municipality of Nocera Superiore. Furthermore, the association manages the ‘Nuceria Città Archeologica’ Infopoint located in the Park, with the same opening hours.

Entry is free and available until 20 minutes before closing time. To visit the site outside opening hours, you must book by sending an email to gruppoarcheologiconuceria@gmail.com.
