Teatro Ellenistico-Romano

The Hellenistic-Roman Theatre of Nuceria was built in the 2nd century BC along the southern edge of the city walls, between the present-day towns of Pareti and Pucciano. The building made use of the natural slope of the land and was situated in a strategic position along the north-south road axis, near the ancient Porta Romana.

One of the largest theatres in Campania in terms of size, the complex has a long history of use and transformation: originally of Samnite tradition, it was monumentalised in Roman times and restored several times, until it was gradually abandoned from the 4th century AD onwards. Today, the site preserves important remains of the stage, the orchestra, the cavea and the side passages, offering a valuable insight into the cultural and architectural life of ancient Nuceria.
